LOCAL NOTICE TO MARINERS

NO. 6 OF 2026

FAILURE OF NAVIGATIONAL LIGHT,
WEST PIER LIGHTHOUSE, WHITEHAVEN HARBOUR

Notice is hereby given that as of Sunday 25th October 2026, following damage sustained during Storm Boelo, the navigational beacon on West Pier Lighthouse at Whitehaven Harbour has failed and is temporarily out of service.

Work to diagnose and repair the issue is under way and interruption will be kept to a minimum. Access to the harbour for vessels will not be impeded at this time.

Notification will be given on reinstatement.

Due to the nature of the damage and risk to public safety, pedestrian access to West Pier has been temporarily suspended.

A parallel failure of the lighted beacon on North Pier has been rectified. However, with more storm conditions expected, additional outages cannot be ruled out.

Further updates regarding the status of West Pier Lighthouse will follow.

In the meantime, if more information or clarity is required, please contact Whitehaven Marina Office on 01946 692435, or Whitehaven Sea Lock on 01946 694672 or on VHF Channel 12.

Date of notification: 26th October 2026
