Madonna has degrees in Commerce and Law from The University of Queensland. She qualified as a Barrister and worked as legal counsel for the Queensland Government advising at Ministerial level on legislation and initiatives relevant to the primary industries sector, including the Fisheries Industry. She is also qualified as a Solicitor in Australia, Hong Kong and England.

After working in government she moved into private practice where she concentrated on commercial law and international banking and finance. She worked in Asia for more than 10 years and as senior legal counsel for ING Group was involved in major infrastructure projects all over Asia, project finance in China, litigation, corporate insolvency and restructuring and mergers and acquisitions , including ING’s acquisition of Barings Group in the mid-1990’s.
